Saturday in Glasgow

Good morning, lovelies!

It's another rainy morning here in Glasgow. Cindy & I decided to take a little jaunt to one of the two coffee shops around the corner for a special Saturday morning treat.

:: Yum! ::

It's a lovely little shop called North Star. Not nearly as wonderful as "The Shop" on Perry Street in Spokane, (in the Redhawk Family neighborhood), but it sure was glorious to get out and try something new! Cindy and I had a lovely time there.
:: Another Cup 'o' Cindy! ::

And she manages to look gorgeous with no makeup!

Here's one of Jenna... A little dark but we'll throw it in anyway...

:: my precious ::

And then we headed back home to cook some breakfast and plan for the day. Because it's another rainy day we'll head out to the Visitor's Center to collect information about all of the possible day excursions that we can plan for better weather and also do some more indoor activities.

While waiting for our transport, Zoe spied something...

:: What IS that, Zoe? A new friend, perhaps? ::

 :: Is it a FLYING squirrel? Did we manifest one from yesterday? ::

:: Zoe gets in for a closer look ::

Okay. So clearly we had a lot of time on our hands whilst waiting for the bus! But who doesn't love a good squirrel picture (or three)?! And Zoe had fun making a new friend, so that is all that counts.

Luna was looking particularly fashionable today so here's your Luna's Fashion Foto of the day:

 :: Seriously. We wish we were that cool at 8! ::

Got on the bus once again - dreary rainy day but when you have good friends around you, who cares what it's doing outside?

:: Good Friends ::

When we got off the bus we were just in time for some major activity...

:: Look mommy, a parade! ::

:: Yes, dear. That's the Communist Party "Parade" ::

Wow! The weird thing is that when we were here in 2009 (MommaRam, Jenna, Luna and our dear friend Chris & her wonderful sister, Suzi) we saw a similar demonstration. And Luna looked up at me then, and said exactly the same thing as she did today: "Look Mommy, a parade!" Hilarious. Auntie Cindy filled her in on the education piece while mom took these here photos. Then we utilized Cindy's camera for some closer shots...

:: Scottish Police ::

:: They even had a helicopter overhead! ::

Some interesting tidbits that we discovered about this protest: These protesters are the Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees and they are protesting dawn raids of refugees by the government. Basically, the government is evicting refugees and they are demanding that Glasgow City Council and the Scottish government stop this disaster and allow the refugees to stay. It was a rather peaceful protest and definitely spiced up our day a bit! There was a very strong police presence in the city because of this activity today!

We quickly tired of this business and went into the Visitor's Center to pick up a bunch of information for day tours. We are in the precarious position now of trying to plan out the rest of the trip. Kristin and Tres will only be with us for 4 full days so we want to make sure we get to do some fun day trips with them. And Brandon will be here a little longer so we'll start a planning calendar to accommodate everyone's wishes and schedule for the Scotland portion of the trip. (Are you getting excited for Amsterdam yet? We are! That's one week from today!!!)

It was really starting to rain again so we decided to get back on the tour bus and head for an indoor activity. We settled on the Transportation Museum. (Sounded utterly boring to me...) But I was so wrong - this place ROCKS! We had a blast! It was incredibly busy, however, so we decided to take a quick go around and come back with Brandon when he gets here. Luna kept saying "Daddy will really love this place!" and I do agree. (So... note to Brandon, quickly scroll past these photos so you get to experience everything fresh and new when you get here!)

This was another of Glasgow's many free museums - so amazing that they have so many free activities to do in this city! There were a treasure trove of sights to be seen and many fun photo opportunities.

They have everything from old fashion bikes...

:: Can you imagine actually riding one of these??? ::

To trains...

:: Luna presents... The Glasgow! ::

:: Luna and her Grandma ::

:: Who's that driving the train? ::

:: Jenna, Luna & MommaRam::

:: Even Zoe got in on the fun! ::

But uh-oh... Zoe ran into trouble!

:: But I WANT to spit! ::
What's a Ewe to do?!?

Moving on to... some colorful transports!

 :: Highly Embellished Pakistani Van. Maybe we can rent one? ::

:: Luna LOVED this van! ::

There was even a kick-ass hippy van!

:: Uh... I think that means "F-off" around these parts, ladies. Seriously. ::

That's so funny. We fully intended that to be the peace sign but I think we got ourselves turned around. So indeed, that does mean something entirely different in this country from that side. So essentially... we're saying a big F you to peace. Again, unintentionally, of course.

This was pretty cool... Luna ran over to this motorcycle and said, "I dreamed about THAT motorcycle last night!" Awesome!

:: Luna's Dream! ::

:: Skinny Double Decker ::

:: Wall 'o' Motorcycles ::

The most amazing part was an old fashion street set up with street cars, cobblestones and little shops you could walk into! We had a blast with that!

:: Streetscape ::

:: Cindy's turn to make a new friend! ::

:: Open up, Luna! ::

:: Cindy & MommaRam ::

:: Whisky cart? Yes, please! ::

:: Diana's (MommaRam's) Dream Car ::

 :: Upper View of the Transportation Museum ::

This place was amazing. We look forward to going back again! It was a little bonkers on a Saturday so we'll definitely go back again during a weekday.

By the time we were ready to go back it was absolutely pouring rain. We ran to the bus and huddled up to get back home. We ate dinner at the house and started working on today's entry.

MommaRam was trying some beer out that one of the local Scottish boys recommended in the local market called "Kelpie Ale" and is made with seaweed. We were highly skeptical and demanded she share a taste:

 :: Yum? ::

:: a wee taste 'o' ale ::

She brought it to us in style. And the final word - it was wonderful! The Scottish bloke knows his beer!

Another day is over. We're tired but happy. Tomorrow we're going to scout out some shopping. We cannot wait for that! Glasgow is known for having the best shopping outside of London in the UK!

We want to let you know that we changed the settings so anyone can post a comment. You just have to go to "comment" and choose "Anonymous" if you don't have an account to sign into. Just make sure to sign your name so we know who you are! We love comments and we love you all!!!

xoxo...

Cindy & Jenna (and MommaRam and Luna too!)

  1. You guys are having entirely too much fun. I understand Haggis goes really good with the seaweed beer - I'm just sayin.
